Orya Maqbool Jan

Orya Maqbool Jan  is a Pakistani islamist, writer and a former civil servant. He writes columns for various Urdu newspapers in Pakistan. He has received various national awards including the best Urdu columnist award in 2004.
He has also served as director general to Sustainable Development of the Walled City Project in Lahore and as executive director ECO, Cultural Institute, Tehran and information secretary to the government of the Punjab. Jan is also a member of the National Academic Council of the Institute of Policy Studies, Islamabad

Career and education

Jan belongs to Abbasi family from Gujrat, Pakistan. Jan received a Master's degree in social work from Punjab University, Lahore, and LL.B from University of Balochistan,Quetta. He has served as deputy commissioner and district magistrate of three districts. He worked as a managing director of Baluchistan water and sanitation authority. He is presently Director, Social welfare, Human rights and Women development. and is overall in charge of community development. He is also project director of UNICEF in the projects on advocacy and communication of rights of children and women development.

Television plays

He has written five television plays of Pakistan Television titled Roazan in 1991, Gardbad in 1993, Shaharzad in 1994, Qafas in 2000, and Qafla in 2004 . He has also written a number of tele-films and assorted plays in Pakistan. The play Gardbad was nominated for best playwright. He has received PTV award of best Playwright of the Decade for 1987 – 97.

Orya Maqbool Jan supports Islam as religion. His extremist views are often criticized on social media
